In a letter dated January 22, 2025, the Rajasthan Marudhara Gramin Bank Officers’ Union (RMGBOU) and the Rajasthan Marudhara Gramin Bank Karmchari Union (RMGBKU) expressed concerns about the ongoing promotion process within the bank. The unions, both affiliated with the AIRRBEA, highlighted these issues amidst the proposed amalgamation of RRBs under the “One State, One RRB” initiative.

Concerns Surrounding the Promotion Process

The unions have expressed their support for the government’s vision of consolidating RRBs to strengthen rural banking but highlighted the urgency of ensuring a fair and transparent promotion process during this transitional period.

In their letter to the bank’s Chairman, the unions stated, “The ongoing amalgamation process has left employees uncertain about their promotion opportunities. It is imperative to proceed with the proposed promotion cycle, ensuring impartiality and safeguarding employees’ rights to advancement. This step would reinforce trust and provide deserving staff with the recognition they have earned through their dedicated contributions to the bank.”

Promotion Process Details

The unions outlined the following points:

  1. The promotion cycle must be carried out promptly to acknowledge the contributions of employees in advancing the bank's development.
  2. The process should adhere to Regional Rural Banks (Appointment of Officers and Employees) Rules, 2017 ensuring assessments based on banking policies, loan management, and other critical aspects of financial operations.
  3. Transparent evaluation mechanisms must be in place to prevent any bias or ambiguity during the selection process.

Call for Immediate Action

The unions have requested the Rajasthan Marudhara Gramin Bank management to expedite the promotion process while ensuring transparency and impartiality. An official of the union told Kanal, “The proposed amalgamation of RRBs has cast doubt on the right to equality in the promotion process for all employees. It would not only boost employee morale but also ensure continued dedication and efficiency. We strongly urge that the promotion process be initiated without delay and completed transparently and equitably, ensuring fairness and equal opportunities for everyone.”

With the “One State, One RRB” policy transforming the rural banking sector, the unions underscored the importance of safeguarding employees’ career progression to maintain trust and motivation within the workforce.
