The All India Bank of Baroda Officers’ Association (AIBOBOA) has expressed deep sorrow and concern following the tragic death of Mr. Ishwar Chander Jha, a 37-year-old Senior Manager (Credit) from the Ranchi Region, who reportedly took his own life on 19th September 2025. The association believes the incident was linked to extreme work pressure.
According to AIBOBOA, Mr. Jha and his Chief Manager had been called to the Regional Office for a meeting that continued until 10:00 P.M., well beyond the official time guidelines set by the Bank’s Corporate Office. These guidelines clearly state that review or follow-up meetings should be restricted to the 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. slot.

The association recalled that, after a similar incident in Pune just two months earlier, the Corporate Office had issued instructions to all Regional and Zonal Heads to respect these time limits and to reduce excessive campaigns and pressures on officers. However, AIBOBOA pointed out that some Regional Heads and officials continue to ignore these rules, exposing officers to prolonged stress and late-night meetings without accountability.
Calling the situation “deeply concerning,” AIBOBOA stressed that two suicides within such a short span of time have badly shaken the officer community. The organisation has urged the Bank’s Managing Director and CEO, Shri Debadatta Chand, to take immediate steps to fix responsibility for the violation of guidelines and to ensure strict compliance across all regions.
General Secretary Prem Kumar Makker, who signed the letter, said that the officer community is under heavy pressure and is demanding urgent remedial action. He called on the management to take organisational responsibility to prevent any further tragedies and to protect the mental health and well-being of employees.
