Bank of Baroda Officers’ Union Raises Concern Over Late-Night Work Pressure Following Officer’s Accident

In a letter dated June 27, 2025, the All India Bank of Baroda Officers’ Union (AIBOBOU) has raised serious concerns regarding officer welfare and safety, following a critical accident involving Shri Rahul Kumar Pal, a WMS Officer from the Raebareilly Region. The union highlighted multiple instances of excessive work pressure, late-night video conferences, and alleged HR guideline violations affecting officer safety and welfare. The union has called for immediate corrective measures and accountability from senior bank officials.
Union Highlights Concerns Following Critical Accident
The letter states that Shri Rahul Kumar Pal, posted at Lalganj Branch in the Raebareilly Region, met with a critical accident on June 23, 2025. According to the union, the accident occurred while he was returning home after being required to stay at the branch until 9:00 PM due to a late-night video conference held by the Chief Manager (CM) and Regional Manager (RM) Raebareilly. Previous Similar Incidents Cited
The union reminded the management of a similar incident involving Late Shri Manish Chandra from the Ajmer Region. Around two years ago, he lost his life under comparable circumstances after being compelled to assist auditors till midnight and later met with a fatal accident while returning home. The union mentioned that his family continues to face difficulties in receiving compassionate appointment, family pension, and medical reimbursements.
Criticism Over HR Practices and Workload Pressure
The letter raised multiple points regarding alleged inhuman HR practices. The union stated that the Head Office (HO), Baroda Corporate Centre (BCC), and Zonal Offices (ZOs) have failed to restrict unwarranted Video Conferences (VCs) and excessive late sittings. They also mentioned that no formal guidelines have been issued to control these practices.

The union further highlighted that the bank has been extracting additional work worth ₹1300 crores annually from officers without compensation. It expressed concern that while the bank continues to receive awards and recognition, officer welfare issues remain neglected.
Concerns Over IFLI Insurance Penalty
The letter also pointed to a Reserve Bank of India (RBI) fine of ₹61.40 lakhs imposed on the bank related to Insurance Repository Development Authority of India (IRDAI) guidelines in connection with Insurance for Life Insurance (IFLI) business. The union claimed that their earlier warnings on this issue were ignored.
Formal Demands Raised by the Union
In its conclusion, the union submitted a list of specific demands, including:
- Immediate action against officials responsible for the late-night VC linked to Shri Rahul Kumar Pal’s accident.
- Accountability in the case of Late Shri Manish Chandra.
- Collection of feedback from officers on late-night VCs and sittings.
- Issuance of formal guidelines restricting late-night VCs to one per week at fixed hours.
- Comprehensive review of regional transfers to curb violations of HO guidelines.
