A violent incident took place in Ramtal village, Sikandarpur Vaishya in Uttar Pradesh (UP) when the manager of Canara Bank’s Bahrojpur branch and his team were attacked while trying to recover a farm loan; Dainik Bhaskar reported from UP.

The Loan Issue
The loan was taken under a Kisan Credit Card (KCC) in the name of Mohar Singh. He owed about ₹9.5 lakh, but had not paid any interest for three years. The bank had asked him to deposit at least ₹3 lakh, but he did not pay.

What Happened
On Wednesday, bank manager Sunil Kumar and his team went to the village to meet Mohar Singh. When he saw them, he ran away. His relatives and other villagers then accused the bank of troubling poor farmers. Soon, they became aggressive and started beating the bank officials.

The attackers, including Kalicharan, Lakhan Singh, Awadhesh, and Mor Singh, along with others, hit the staff, snatched ₹5,000 from the manager, broke his phone, and kept the team trapped for some time.

Rescue
The bank staff managed to inform their colleagues. Soon, employees from nearby branches rushed to the spot and rescued them. A video of the incident was recorded and has now gone viral on social media.

Police Response
After the attack, the team filed a complaint at Sikandarpur Vaishya police station. Station in-charge Chanchal Sirohi confirmed that the case was registered and the injured officials were given medical check-ups. He added that further investigation is in progress.

Concern for Bank Staff
This case has raised serious questions about the safety of bank employees during loan recovery work in villages. It also shows the growing tension between banks and farmers who are unable to repay their loans.
