Under the banner of the United Forum of Punjab & Sind Bank Unions (UFPSBU), a large number of officers and staff from various zones gathered outside the Corporate Office of Punjab & Sind Bank in East Kidwai Nagar, Delhi on April 17, 2025. The peaceful demonstration was a strong show of unity, demanding a fair, transparent, and employee-friendly transfer and promotion policy.

“Since the time we got to know about this policy, many female employees have started preparing to resign. The 200 km clause is in direct conflict with Finance Ministry guidelines which clearly state women employees should be posted near their spouse or parents,”
— said a protesting female officer from Punjab and Sind Bank to Kanal.
She further added, “We are not declining promotions out of choice, we have small children, ageing parents or in-laws. This policy doesn’t support working women, it punishes them. Either it must be amended or scrapped altogether.”

The demonstration was supported by bankers from across India. AIBOA General Secretary Sanjay Kumar Khan addressed the gathering and strongly emphasized, “The DFS issued clear guidelines. What Punjab & Sind Bank has done is modify them unilaterally. Bilateral talks are the essence of the banking industry, they must not be bypassed.”
He was joined by Ratneshwar Chaudhary, General Secretary, AIPSBOF (affiliated with AIBOA), and G.S. Khera, President, AIPSBOU (affiliated with AIBOC), who reiterated the demand for fairness and dialogue.

“If this policy is implemented as it is, it will be nearly impossible for many women to continue their jobs. The clause overruling central guidelines by defining ‘home area’ as 200 km is unacceptable. It’s not just about transfers, it’s about survival in the job.”
— said one female banker to Kanal.
What’s next?
If the management fails to respond, a one-day strike is planned for the first week of May, followed by an indefinite strike. The staff has made it clear — they’re ready to escalate if fairness is not restored.
