India’s cooperative sector has achieved a global milestone as two of its leading organisations — the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (Amul) and the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO) — have been ranked the world’s No. 1 and No. 2 cooperatives in the latest Global Cooperative Rankings 2025, as reported by The Times of India.

According to the World Cooperative Monitor 2025 report published by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), Amul and IFFCO have topped the global rankings based on the metric of turnover over GDP per capita. The rankings highlight the performance of leading cooperatives relative to the size of their home economies.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah congratulated both organisations, describing it as a proud moment for India’s cooperative movement. The Ministry of Cooperation also shared the achievement, acknowledging the contribution of Indian cooperatives to the global cooperative network.

The World Cooperative Monitor 2025 released by the International Cooperative Alliance lists Amul and IFFCO in the top two positions globally, based on the metric of turnover over GDP per capita. The findings reflect the data compiled to evaluate the relative performance of leading cooperatives across different countries.
