In a strong protest against the intense work culture within the Bank of Baroda (BoB), the All India Bank of Baroda Officers’ Union (AIBOBOU) has called for a Black Day to be observed on 21st July 2025. The move comes after the tragic Suicide of Shiv Kumar Mitra, Chief Manager at Baramati Branch (Pune Zone), which the union has directly linked to unbearable work pressure.
Black Day Announced by AIBOBOU
As per the circular dated 19th July 2025, AIBOBOU has called upon all its members to observe Black Day on 21st July by wearing black ribbons during office hours while discharging their duties. The protest is in response to the increasing work pressure on officers.

Officer’s Suicide Sparks Deep Concern
In the above mentioned circular the union stated that the officer ended his life due to unbearable work pressure. This has shocked the entire officer community. AIBOBOU also mentioned that it had already taken up the issue with the management.
Union Demands Resignation
AIBOBOU has demanded the immediate resignation of the top executives responsible for creating and perpetuating the toxic work culture in the bank, along with their immediate arrest. The union also called for accountability from those who have turned the bank into a machinery of psychological torture.
118th Foundation Day or Mourning Day?
Speaking to Kanal, AIBOBOU General Secretary K. Sriniwasrao said “The management has converted BoB into a pressure cooker of mental harassment, humiliations, and endless late-night VC culture, where officers are pushed to their psychological and physical limits.”
He further stated, “Instead of celebrating the 118th Foundation Day, it should have been observed as a day of nationwide protests and black flags across the country. He also questioned whether this is the time to seek discussions with a non-sensitive, unaccountable management, especially when a ‘dalali’ work is going on.”
AIBOBOU appealed to all its members to support the call and join in expressing their collective grief and protest through this symbolic gesture. The union reiterated that the unbearable work culture must be addressed immediately and strongly warned that such incidents could recur if urgent steps are not taken by the management.
