The All India Regional Rural Bank Officers’ Federation (AIRRBOF) has reiterated its demand for the enhancement of the employer's National Pension Scheme (NPS) contribution to 14%, effective retrospectively from November 1, 2020.

In a letter dated January 14, 2025, addressed to the Director of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, the Federation expressed frustration over the non-implementation of the enhanced contribution despite multiple reminders.

Frustration Mounts Over Delays

The AIRRBOF emphasized that the prolonged delay is creating unrest among Regional Rural Bank (RRB) employees. Highlighting the discontent, the letter stated, “It is exasperating to note that none of RRB managements have implemented the enhancement in spite of several reminders. Firstly, accepting NPS instead of OPS is by itself a difficult proposition. Causing further frustration by depriving RRB staff of this legitimate benefit is bound to lead to widespread discontent and unrest.”

The Federation stressed the significance of addressing this issue promptly, warning that neglecting the matter might further undermine the morale of RRB employees who already face various challenges in their work environment.

AIRRBOF General Secretary Srijan Kumar Pal appealed for the Ministry’s intervention to ensure justice and prevent the escalation of dissatisfaction among the staff. The Federation's letter marks another plea in the ongoing struggle to ensure fair treatment and financial security for RRB employees under the NPS framework.
