Baroda UP Bank Officers’ Association Demand Action Against Abusive Regional Manager

The Baroda UP Bank Officers’ Association has accused the Prayagraj Regional Manager of harassment, abusive behavior, and mismanagement. Employees point out that 25 of Baroda UP Bank’s 30 regions are led by deputed officers from Bank of Baroda, sidelining in-house talent and impacting morale.

The Baroda UP Bank Officers’ Association (BUPBOA) has raised concerns about the unethical behavior of the Regional Manager (RM) of Prayagraj Region. The AIRRBEA affiliated union, in two detailed letters dated January 9, 2025, and January 11, 2025, has highlighted instances of harassment, intimidation, and mismanagement, demanding immediate intervention from the bank’s top management.

Allegations Against the Prayagraj Regional Manager

The BUPBOA outlined a series of grievances against the RM Santosh Kumar Pandey, including abusive language, unwarranted transfers, and public humiliation of staff during video conferences. According to the letter dated January 11, the RM has ignored prior complaints and failed to engage with the union to resolve pressing issues, worsening workplace morale.

One instance mentioned in the letter accused the RM of forcing branch managers to publicly apologize during video conferences. The letter reads, “The RM’s continuous use of derogatory language and threats has created an atmosphere of fear and distrust in the Prayagraj region.”

The Prayagraj unit of the Officers' Association has also voiced concerns regarding the persistent pattern of inappropriate behavior exhibited by the Prayagraj Regional Manager.

Sponsor Bank’s High-handedness

Employees and unions have expressed concerns over the high-handed approach of the sponsor bank, which they argue is undermining employee morale. A Baroda UP Bank (BUPB) employee, speaking to Kanal on the condition of anonymity, stated, “Despite having many competent officers at the Scale 4 and 5 levels within Baroda UP Bank, 25 out of its 30 regions are managed by Regional Managers deputed from Bank of Baroda. This hinders the potential of in-house talent and affects overall performance.”

A Pattern of Abusive Behavior

The letter from January 9 cites a recurring issue of abusive practices by RMs in Baroda UP Bank (BUPB), who are deputed officers of the sponsor bank, Bank of Baroda. This trend, according to the union, has led to industrial unrest and dissatisfaction among employees.

The letter also recalled similar incidents involving the same RM during his tenure in Ballia Region, which eventually required intervention from the bank’s top management. The union stated, “The RM’s actions have resulted in explosive situations in the past, compelling unions to stage protests.”

Reports of corrupt practices, misconduct, and excessive work demands by Regional Managers have sparked growing discontent among employees. In a notable incident in 2023, the incumbent Prayagraj RM as Ballia Regional Manager verbally abused a staff member, stating, “tum bandhwa majdoor ho, bank tumhe tankhwa deti hai” (You are a bonded labourer, and the bank pays your salary).

Union’s Call for Action

The BUPBOA has urged the management to prioritize creating a positive work environment, emphasizing that resolving these concerns is critical to maintaining industrial peace and operational efficiency in the remaining months of the financial year.
