A Gathering of Unity and Strength
The convention brought together around 100 women members from various states across India, along with State General Secretaries, senior Federation leaders, and distinguished guests. The event served as a strong reminder that women’s participation is not only necessary but essential for shaping the future of trade unions and the banking community.

The programme was inaugurated by Professor (Dr.) Swarnamoyee Tripathy, retired from Utkal University, who attended as the Chief Guest. The opening ceremony featured Odissi and local folk performances that beautifully represented the unity of culture, tradition, and sisterhood.

In her inaugural address, Dr. Tripathy discussed the current challenges faced by women employees in both public and private sectors. She emphasised the importance of awareness, safety, and equality at workplaces, and urged women employees to stand together, know their rights, and build strong representation in decision-making structures.

Key Highlights and Discussions
The Convener presented a comprehensive report summarising the past term’s achievements, initiatives, and challenges. The session that followed saw 15 delegates from across the nation take part in open and constructive discussions.

Delegates explored several important issues affecting women employees and the wider banking workforce. The main topics included:

* The need for greater representation of women in trade union structures and policy    discussions.

* The urgent requirement for creches (childcare centres) at workplaces to support working mothers.

* The negative effects of the National Pension System (NPS) on employees’ welfare.

* The importance of workplace safety and gender sensitisation programmes to ensure respect and equality.

Senior leaders, including State General Secretaries, the President, and the General Secretary of AIUBEF, shared their thoughts and appreciated the committee’s dedication and achievements.

Leadership and Future Goals
The General Secretary of AIUBEF, Jagannath Chakraborty, raised serious concerns about the growing privatisation of the banking sector and its possible impact on job security. He appealed to members to remain united and to fight any move that could weaken employee rights or job protection.

A key decision of the convention was to restructure the Women Sub Committee  to make it more active and inclusive. Delegates also proposed separate leadership roles for women at branch and state levels to ensure their greater participation and visibility in union activities.

A new national committee was formed, with Com. Amritha S. Kala (Kerala) as President, Madhuri Sengupta (West Bengal) as General Secretary, and several women comrades from different states taking up leadership positions.

The delegates reaffirmed their dedication to creating a fair and safe working environment for women employees and to ensuring equal opportunities for leadership and participation.

According to the organisation, this historic convention was not just a meeting, but a symbol of progress and empowerment. It demonstrated the power of women standing together to defend their rights, to lead with confidence, and to build a stronger, more inclusive future for the entire banking fraternity.

In essence, the 2nd All India Convention of the Union Bank Women Sub Committee celebrated unity, empowerment, and determination inspiring women bankers across the nation to rise together and shape the path towards equality and dignity in the workplace.
