The Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) Officers’ Association has sounded the alarm on a multitude of pressing issues affecting the bank's officer community.

In a letter addressed to the All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC), concerns were raised regarding the bank’s unilateral approach to HR policies, abrupt transfer orders, and a palpable decline in morale among officers due to mounting stress.

Service Issues Highlighted for Immediate Action

IOB Officers’ Association took some of the service issues for immediate attention such as -

  • Inadequate Clerical staff at many branches adding workload  to officers eventually.
  • Unethical practice of denying Day End Permission which pose a life threat to lady officers in particular and others including bank property in general.
  • Calling of officers on Sundays and Holidays denying their quality time to be spent with family.
  • Conducting frequent Review Meetings at late hours/holidays/Sunday leading to increase in health issues of officers on account of continuous stress.
  • Denial of leave requests of officers even for genuine reasons.

The letter further highlighted concerns regarding the denial of a balanced work-life environment, including the breach of the board-approved Transfer policy. Transfer orders issued by Top/Regional Management, purportedly due to target non-achievement, were also condemned.

Additionally, the humiliation of officers during review meetings has become a pressing issue among IOB officials, exacerbating existing challenges within the bank's organisational culture.

Challenges Surrounding PSBs

In recent times, employees in Public Sector Banks (PSBs) have faced an array of obstacles, including staff shortagestarget pressuresweekend work, and the mis-selling of third-party products to meet targets. Furthermore, late meetings extending past office hours have added to the challenges encountered by PSB bankers.
