A Jammu & Kashmir Bank officer was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted in Anantnag district on the evening of July 29, 2025, after he reportedly refused to sanction a loan. The Jammu & Kashmir Bank Officers’ Association (Kashmir) has strongly condemned the incident, called for strict punishment of the culprits and raised concerns over the safety of bank staff in the region.
Saqib Mohammed Najar, posted as Advance Manager at the Tailwani Achabal branch, said the attack occurred around 8PM, while he was returning home to Anantnag via Gopalpora. “My senior was ahead of me in his car. Suddenly, another vehicle stopped in front of mine. When I honked, a man came out, dragged me out, and started beating me. Soon, others joined in until I lost consciousness,” Saqib told a local news outlet.
When Saqib regained consciousness around 8:30 PM, he found himself inside a house, surrounded by several individuals, some of whom he recognised. “They questioned why I wasn’t approving their loan. When I explained that I couldn’t release the funds, they demanded a car instead. I believe they were planning to kill me,” he alleged.

According to Saqib, police reached the location around 1.30AM and rescued him. Achabal Police have filed an FIR (No. 0058) under section 178 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) and launched an investigation. The accused have not yet been formally identified. Authorities have not issued an official statement on the case.
In a press release, the Jammu & Kashmir Bank Officers’ Association (Kashmir), a constituent unit of All Jammu & Kashmir Bank Officers’ Federation (AJKBOF) and JKLC affiliated to All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA), praised the timely action of JK Police in rescuing the officer but said, “the incident has raised questions on the security of bank staff operating in Kashmir.”
The Association, led by General Secretary Mufti Shujat Ali, demanded that the perpetrators face strict legal punishment after trial and cautioned against “misinterpreted narratives by various vested interests regarding government schemes implemented by the banks in Kashmir.”
This incident adds to growing safety concerns among bank employees working in high-risk zones. Union leaders have been pressing for better protection measures for staff handling sensitive assignments, particularly those involved in loan processing and recovery.
