According to the Government of India notification, the Mission Karmayogi initiative aims to enhance efficiency, adaptability, and public service delivery in civil services and Public Sector Banks (PSB). However, the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) has raised concerns about the actual content and intent of the training programme under the iGOT Karmayogi platform.
Use of Mythology in Training Raises Red Flags
BEFI notes that many of the courses on the iGOT Karmayogi platform include narratives from Indian epics. These mythological episodes are framed as leadership and governance lessons. According to BEFI, this leads to ideological indoctrination rather than skill enhancement. The requirement for participants to download the iGOT app and compulsorily carry smartphones has also raised accessibility and inclusivity concerns.

Banking Sector Needs Relevant, Modern Training
As India's banking sector undergoes a digital transformation, BEFI argues that the focus of training must shift to modern topics. These include cybersecurity, data analytics, customer service, and business operations. With over 90% of transactions already digital, BEFI points out that banking professionals need upskilling in current technological trends, not mythological studies.
Concerns Over Ideological Influence
The statement expresses that the Mission Karmayogi initiative, under the supervision of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), appears to favour ideological alignment over capacity building. BEFI warns that such selective inclusion of religious content undermines India’s secular framework and may alienate employees from diverse backgrounds.
Call for Secular, Skill-Oriented Training
BEFI emphasises that training intended to improve public service must uphold constitutional values such as equality, fraternity, and secularism. Every employee, regardless of caste, creed, or religion, should be treated with dignity. The federation demands that training modules be neutral and skill-focused, designed to improve public service delivery and not to serve any ideological interest.
The BEFI has made its stance clear against the current structure of the Mission Karmayogi programme in PSB. They call for a secular, professional, and skill-centric approach to capacity building, urging that such efforts genuinely focus on employee development and not ideological promotion.
