The Office Assistants (OA) in Odisha Gramya Bank have come under significant work pressure after a directive issued by the Regional Office of Pipli. OA are being pressured to meet enrollment targets for the Atal Pension Yojana (APY). The notice, dated November 14, 2024, highlights the bank's dissatisfaction with staff responses to prior instructions regarding APY enrollment mandates.

The circular refers to a WhatsApp message sent by the Regional Manager (RM) on November 13, 2024, urging each staff member to enroll at least five APY accounts within two days. It said, “Dear all, we request you to please enroll maximum APY in these coming two days. Per staff at least 5 APYs. We are far short as compared to other regions. Your efforts for yourself and the bank should always be there without any excuses. The bank is there, so are you? Take it as an appeal.”

As per the notice, only one employee, Dipak Kumar Mallick from Kalyanpur Branch, responded, prompting the office to describe the general attitude as “insubordination to higher authority and carelessness.”

Final Warning Call

The tone of the circular reflects a growing atmosphere of work pressure, with staff members being directly warned of strict disciplinary action if they fail to comply with such enrollment targets. The directive, labelled as a “final warning,” conveys the urgency and weight of the targets, which many employees might find overwhelming given the short timelines and additional workload it imposes.

The Regional Manager’s instruction to all branch managers underscores the mounting pressure on RRB employees to meet target-driven financial inclusion schemes, often at the cost of work life balance. The RMs in another RRB in Odisha, Utkal Grameen Bank have been found mired in controversies for creating a high-pressure environment for the bank.
