The Prathama UP Gramin Bank Officers’ Association (PUPBOA) has formally announced an agitation plan against the existing unilateral tax deductions on perquisites from staff salaries. The PUPBOA argues that such deductions, implemented retrospectively, have caused significant financial hardship for a large number of officers and employees.

Call for Immediate Reversal of Tax Deduction on Perquisites

In a letter dated February 3, 2025, addressed to the chairman of the bank, the PUPBOA highlighted that, “The bank management has resorted to unilaterally deducting the tax on value of perquisites from monthly salary of staff members, from a retrospective date causing huge burden and hardship to the large number of officers and employees of respective Banks.”

The PUPBOA further pointed out that some RRBs have been paying this tax on behalf of their employees to avoid any financial burden and to ensure that the benefits of concessional loan rates are not diluted. Thus the union has decided to undertake an agitation demanding the management to bear the tax deduction.

Agitation and Strike Schedule

The notice outlines a detailed agitation plan aimed at forcing the bank to reverse its policy. The planned actions include:

  • February 5, 2025: Boycott the selling of third-party products.
  • February 11–27, 2025: One-day dharna at designated branch locations on specific dates across regions such as Amroha, Alipur, Gonda, Balarampur, Muradabad, Jhansi, Badayun, Bijnaur, Thakurdwara, Ghaziabad, Rampur and Muzaffarnagar.
  • February 28, 2025: Members will consolidate their demands via email to the bank’s Chairman.
  • March 1, 2025: A formal procession by 100 members and submission of their memorandum to the Chairman.
  • March 3, 2025 onward: A complete ban on campaigns.
  • March 4-13, 2025: Publicising the demand followed by an intensified social media campaign and field movement.

Recently, the NFRRBO also urged all the RRBs to stop unilateral tax deductions on perquisites, citing financial hardship for employees.

The union’s appeal underscores the need for fair and transparent practices in tax management within Prathama UP Gramin Bank, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the benefits of concessional loan rates for employees.
