Armed robbers looted a branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district, escaping with about ₹8 crore in cash and 58 kilograms of gold.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when a group of masked men, dressed in uniforms resembling those of the military, entered the bank. Armed with country-made pistols and other weapons, they overpowered the staff, tied them up, and threatened the branch manager and employees. The robbers acted swiftly, making sure no one could raise an alarm during the operation.
After carrying out the heist, the gang fled in a vehicle, which was later discovered abandoned in Pandharpur, Maharashtra. This has raised suspicions that the crime may have been part of an interstate operation.
A joint investigation by the Karnataka and Maharashtra police is under way. Security officials have reached the bank to collect evidence, and the surrounding area has been sealed off. The robbery has drawn large crowds, as news of the daring incident spread quickly.
