In Uttar Pradesh (U.P), the Baroda UP Bank is grappling with a severe crisis of staff shortage, significantly straining its operations and increasing the workload on officials. Despite this challenge, the bank remains optimistic about delivering promising performance.
Vacancy Implications
Operating with 1983 branches and 7697 employees across 30 districts, Baroda UP Bank faces a critical shortage of clerks and officials. This deficit not only burdens officials but also severely impacts service delivery, particularly in rural areas where the bank primarily operates.
A bank official shed light on the repercussions, noting that officials in understaffed branches now shoulder additional responsibilities, including cash management, account openings, and government scheme facilitation.
Moreover, he emphasised, “The lack of adequate clerk recruitment has significantly hampered the bank’s ability to provide efficient services to its rural customer base.”
Filling the 30,000 vacancies across 43 RRBs has long been urged by the All India Rural Regional Bank Employees’ Association (AIRRBEA).
No Improvement Post Amalgamation
Baroda UP Bank was established as a result of amalgamation of Baroda Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, Purvanchal Bank, and Kashi Gomti Samyut Gramin Bank. However, desired outcomes regarding adequate recruitment are yet to materialise.
Ram Krishna Pandey, General Secretary of Baroda UP Bank Employees’ Union, expressed, “The bank has been eagerly awaiting the recruitment of scale 1 clerks, which would have alleviated the increasing workload on the existing staff. It’s ironic that the bank’s business has quadrupled despite staff shortages.”
Recently, the Baroda UP Bank Employees Union and Baroda UP Bank Officers Association jointly wrote a letter to the bank’s Chairman, highlighting the urgent need for staff recruitment in line with the S.K Mitra committee recommendations.

Promising Results
According to the unaudited yearly assessment, the bank is anticipated to deliver a promising performance compared to the fiscal year 2022-23. Despite facing staff shortages and pressure to meet targets, the bank remains committed to achieving favourable outcomes.

Based on available data, the bank is projected to achieve positive results in critical areas such as Current Account and Savings Account (CASA), Cash Deposit Ratio, and overall business performance.
While the bank’s financial trajectory appears promising, it underscores the urgent necessity to tackle staffing shortages, aiming to reduce work pressure and enhance the work-life balance of its employees.
