UFBU Requests Diwali Bank Holiday on 21 October 2025 in Rajasthan

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has urged the Rajasthan Government to declare 21 October 2025 as a bank holiday so that employees can celebrate Diwali with their families, alongside the already approved holidays on 20 and 22 October.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), representing various bank employees’ associations in Rajasthan, has written to the Finance Department of the Rajasthan Government requesting that Tuesday, 21 October 2025, be declared a bank holiday in the state.

Image-Letter From UFBU to Rajasthan Government

Background of the Request
The Rajasthan Government has already announced public holidays for 20 October (Monday) on the occasion of Lakshmi Pujan and 22 October (Wednesday) for Govardhan Pooja. However, the main day of Diwali, which falls on 21 October (Tuesday) this year, has not been included in the official list of bank holidays.

According to the UFBU, this creates a gap in the festive calendar, as banks would remain open on the most important day of Diwali celebrations.

Why the Holiday Is Important
The union pointed out that Diwali is one of the most significant festivals in India, celebrated with great devotion and joy by people of all communities. On this day, families gather for traditional rituals, prayers, and celebrations that often continue late into the night.

The UFBU argued that keeping banks open on Diwali day would cause inconvenience to employees who wish to celebrate with their families. Many government offices, schools, and private institutions remain closed during the three main Diwali days, and bank staff should be given the same consideration.

UFBU’s Appeal to the Government
In its letter, the UFBU requested that the government declare 21 October 2025 as a holiday for all banks under the Negotiable Instruments Act, in addition to the already declared holidays on 20 and 22 October.

The union believes that granting this additional day off will not only allow employees to fully participate in Diwali celebrations but will also help them return to work refreshed and motivated after the festive season.

Broader Significance
This request reflects the ongoing efforts by employee unions to balance work commitments with cultural and personal well-being. Public sector employees, including those in the banking sector, often work under tight schedules and heavy workloads. Recognising major cultural festivals as full holidays contributes to maintaining employee morale and work life balance.

Demand For Official Order
The UFBU has urged the Rajasthan Government to sympathetically consider the matter and issue the necessary orders as soon as possible. If approved, this move will ensure that bank employees across Rajasthan can celebrate Diwali peacefully with their families and communities.
