The All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) has submitted a formal representation to the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS). The letter requests a review of the existing recruitment system for Customer Service Assistants in banks. AIBEA has expressed concerns about insufficient candidate supply, vacant positions, and rising attrition.

AIBEA Flags Candidate Shortage
AIBEA states that even though IBPS conducts examinations and selects candidates as per the requirements defined by banks, the number of candidates joining the banks is significantly lower. Instances of attrition shortly after joining further add to the issue, leading to unfilled vacancies in multiple branches.

Impact of Vacancies on Branch Operations
According to AIBEA, the shortage of manpower in branches is causing significant stress among the existing staff. Employees are unable to complete routine work within defined working hours, resulting in dissatisfaction among officers and managers.

Issues With Replacement Candidates
AIBEA states that IBPS maintains a buffer of selected candidates; however, the buffer percentage is insufficient when adjusted to the current attrition rate. Banks are reportedly receiving far fewer replacement candidates than requested, affecting the recruitment cycle and manpower planning.

AIBEA Seeks Larger Candidate Panel
The association proposes that all successful candidates be kept in a waitlisted panel until the end of the financial year. This would allow banks to fill vacancies created due to dropouts or resignations, ensuring better utilisation of available manpower.

AIBEA has urged IBPS to review the current recruitment system and expand the panel of selected candidates. According to the association, this step will enable banks to meet manpower requirements efficiently and reduce the operational challenges caused by unfilled vacancies.
