The All India Regional Rural Bank Employees Association (AIRRBEA) has issued a letter to the Chairman of Tripura Gramin Bank (TGB) addressing a strike notice served by the Joint Development Forum (JDF), which comprises all four unions of officers and employees in the bank. The strike, scheduled for January 27, 2025, stems from dissatisfaction over unresolved demands related to employee welfare, customer service, and operational fairness.

Call for Transparency and Welfare Reforms

AIRRBEA’s Secretary General, S. Venkateswar Reddy, emphasized that the demands raised by JDF are critical for enhancing customer service and improving the bank’s overall business. Highlighting key concerns, the letter stated, “The bank is unwarrantedly complicating the situation by compelling the staff to go on agitation on the non-issues like obeying instructions of GOI and NABARD in arriving at the vacancies as per S.K Mitra Committee, mandatory duty of the bank to implement minimum wages and comply with all statutory benefits to DRWs/sanitation workers and the instructions of GOI to implement 12th Bipartite Settlement/9th Joint Note at par with the industry.”

The association has urged the bank management to engage in meaningful dialogue with JDF representatives to address these pressing matters.

Demands Raised by JDF

Among the highlighted issues are:

  1. Revising the unilaterally implemented Transfer Policy to ensure transparency and mutual consultation with unions.
  2. Posting union office bearers at the Head Office to facilitate smooth communication between staff and management.
  3. Complying with statutory benefits for daily wage earners and sanitation workers.
  4. Ensuring the implementation of the 12th Bipartite Settlement and 9th Joint Note as per government instructions.

Request for Immediate Action

AIRRBEA has called upon the bank’s leadership to resolve the situation through discussions, warning that failure to do so could lead to a total strike. The letter has been copied to NABARD and sponsor bank PNB for necessary action.

With the strike date approaching, the focus remains on whether Tripura Gramin Bank’s management will address the unions’ concerns to avert disruptions.
