The Telangana Grameena Bank (TGB) has issued an important public notice addressing the upcoming amalgamation of Andhra Pradesh Grameena Vikas Bank (APGVB) branches located in Telangana with its operations, effective January 1, 2025.

The communication referenced a DFS directive dated November 13, 2024, under notification F.No. 15/15/2015(E)-RRB. The integration will enable TGB to cover the entirety of Telangana state under a unified banking framework.

Temporary Service Disruptions

To ensure a smooth amalgamation of branches and systems, the bank has announced a temporary suspension of banking services from December 28, 2024, to December 31, 2024. Services affected include ATMs, UPI, mobile and internet banking, and customer service points (CSPs). Full operations will resume on January 1, 2025.

In anticipation of potential customer needs, TGB has arranged for emergency cash withdrawals of up to ₹5,000 at home branches on December 30 and 31, 2024. Transactions at non-home branches will not be permitted during this period.

Customer Guidance and Service Updates

The bank has requested customers of APGVB branches to visit their respective branches from January 1, 2025, to replace ATM cards and re-register for mobile banking, internet banking, and UPI services. Customers are advised to plan their financial transactions in advance to minimize inconvenience during the system transition.

The General Manager (Admin) of TGB emphasised the bank’s commitment to serving customers efficiently and urged them to stay updated through the official website or by visiting the nearest branch for further assistance.

The Curious Move of Merger

The functioning of the APGVB branches in Telangana as Telangana Grameena Bank comes amid the ‘One State - One RRB’ process of amalgamation of RRBs. However, TGB officers consider it to be the merger of APGVB branches into the TGB.

An officer told Kanal, “In my view, this is more of a merger than an amalgamation. The bank’s name remains unchanged, and there’s no restructuring of the Board of Directors. Unlike an amalgamation, which typically creates a new entity with a new name and Board, this process retains the existing structure.”

He further explained, “All branches, regions, and staff of APGVB will come under the control of TGB. Stationery, the website, MIS, and security forms will all carry TGB’s branding. Additionally, the current TGB Chairman will continue to hold the position. It’s worth noting that APGVB operates primarily in three districts of Andhra Pradesh.”
