“Can’t Resign”: Officer Alleges Harassment, FVR Probe Used by Bandhan Bank to Delay Exit

A former Bandhan Bank officer claims his resignation was delayed citing process lapses. He alleges the bank used the inquiry period to humiliate, frustrate, and harass the employee, knowing he could not exit without a relieving letter. The charge sheet accuses him of not conducting Field Verification Reports properly for two accounts.

A former officer of Bandhan Bank has alleged that the bank deliberately delayed his resignation by citing procedural lapses after he submitted his notice. According to the officer, his resignation was put on hold on the last day of his notice period. He claims that the internal inquiry process was used to mentally harass employees under the pretext of investigation, leaving them unable to join other organisations due to pending relieving letters.

Allegation of Resignation Delay and HR Response
The officer, who served as an Account Manager, stated that when any of the employees refuse to sell insurance and EOP (quarter closing time CASA balance), they are allegedly framed under process lapses. In such cases, if a mule transaction occurs in any account opened by the employee, the HR department either disables the resignation button or places the resignation under abeyance—even if the employee has already resigned.

When employees ask what the lapse is, how long the investigation will take, or request a detailed report, there is no response from HR—only a repeated line: “You have not done the Field Verification Report (FVR) in a true manner.” The officer claimed that under the pretext of investigation, which often lasts 3 to 5 months, the bank deliberately humiliates, frustrates, and harasses employees, knowing they cannot exit without a relieving letter.

Charge Sheet Alleges Improper Field Verification
The charge sheet issued on 20 May 2025 by Bandhan Bank accuses the officer of not conducting FVRs in the "true spirit" for two current accounts opened in September 2024. Both accounts shared the same address. The bank cited these similarities and the absence of proper documentation as lapses under its staff accountability policies.

Officer Responds: Denies FVR Lapse, Calls Charge sheet Baseless
The officer stated that the charge sheet only blamed him for not conducting the FVR properly. However, he pointed out that the bank has a process for a second FVR to be conducted by the supervisor before the account is opened.

He said both the accounts mentioned in the charge sheet were opened by him. The address for both firms was the same, as they were run by two brothers engaged in an allied business of trading cycle parts, one located on the ground floor and the other on the first floor of the same premises.

According to him, the entire process laid down by the bank was followed. He asserted that if there had been any lapse on his part, the supervisor should have reported it during the second field verification. Therefore, he claimed, the charge sheet is null and void.

Concerns Over Pattern of Alleged Resignation Blockages
The officer further claimed that multiple employees from his city are facing similar issues having their resignations delayed or resignation buttons disabled on the system following vague charges of “process lapses.” He alleged that in many cases, no detailed investigation report is shared for months, and when questioned, HR offers generic replies without specifics.

On 13 June 2025, the officer wrote to the MD of Bandhan Bank, expressing concern over the absence of a response and alleging ongoing malpractice at the ground level. As of now, no update has been received.
