SBI Launches ‘SBI STAR’ to Honour Employees’ Hidden Talents

State Bank of India has introduced the “SBI-STAR” (Staff Talent Acknowledgement & Recognition) initiative. The annual award scheme recognises staff achievements in areas such as arts, sports, culture, social work and environmental initiatives.

The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced an annual award scheme titled SBI-STAR to recognise and celebrate the personal achievements of its employees beyond their professional duties, The initiative applies to the bank’s workforce of over 2.45 lakh employees. The Economic Times reported

Recognition Beyond Banking:
Under the SBI-STAR programme, the bank will acknowledge staff members who have excelled in areas such as arts, literature, games and sports, culture, social work, and environmental initiatives.

Selection Process:
According to SBI, the selection process will be structured, fair, and transparent. Employees can self-nominate, after which each Circle or Vertical unit will evaluate and shortlist candidates. The final selection will be made by the Corporate Centre in Mumbai.
 

Recognising Real Stories
The bank shared examples of employees whose achievements reflect the spirit of the initiative:

  • Pratiksha Tondwalkar, who rose to Assistant General Manager while continuing her education. 
  • Sanvli, a visually impaired clerk who motivates colleagues through her dedication. 
  • Tarachand Agarwal, a retired banker who cleared the Chartered Accountancy exam at the age of 71. 
  • Illuri Ajay Kumar Reddy, a partially blind officer who captained India’s Blind Cricket Team to five World Cup victories and received the Arjuna Award.

Chairman’s Statement:
SBI Chairman Challa Sreenivasulu Setty said employees should be recognised not only for professional excellence but also for their personal accomplishments, passions, and contributions to society. 

The SBI-STAR programme has been launched to formally recognise employees for their contributions and achievements beyond professional responsibilities through a transparent and structured process.
