Dakshin Bihar Gramin Bank Retirees Association Celebrates Golden Jubilee of RRBs
The Dakshin Bihar Gramin Bank Retirees Association celebrated 50 years of Regional Rural Banks with a seminar in Ara, Bihar. The event highlighted RRBs' transformative role in rural development and announced the formation of the D.K. Mukherjee Memorial Helping Trust to support underprivileged communities.

The Dakshin Bihar Gramin Bank Retirees Association (DBGBRA) organised the golden jubilee celebration of 50 years of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) with a special seminar held on December 22, 2024 in the city of Ara, Bihar. The event was graced by nearly 150 attendees and several distinguished dignitaries, emphasizing the pivotal role of RRBs in rural development over the last five decades.

The seminar was chaired by National Federation of Retired Regional Rural Bank Staff (NFRRRBS), Joint Secretary N. N Ojha and Association President, Ishwar Chand Sharma presided over the meeting. Shri Narayan Pathak, a key speaker, paid homage to the legacy of D.K. Mukherjee, whose vision spearheaded the establishment of RRBs.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Niraj Singh, Head of the Hindi and Bhojpuri Department, emphasized the crucial role RRBs play in sustaining and advancing rural India. Adding to this, Ranveer Anand, General Secretary of the Dakshin Bihar Gramin Bank Officers Association, underscored the relevance and importance of RRBs in today's context.
D. K Mukherjee Memorial Helping Trust Unveiled
The seminar also witnessed a monumental inauguration of the D.K. Mukherjee Memorial Helping Trust, which aims to serve the underprivileged and disadvantaged sections of society. The act of serving society would take place on the birth and death anniversary of AIRRBEA’s founding leader, D.K Mukherjee.

- N.N Ojha outlined the significance of RRBs lauding them as the second-largest banking institution in India, playing a crucial role in financial inclusion and rural economic development.
- The D.K. Mukherjee Memorial Trust was announced to provide financial and material aid to marginalized communities, further cementing RRBs' commitment to social upliftment.
- Attendees fondly remembered the contributions of D.K. Mukherjee, whose groundbreaking initiatives shaped the growth trajectory of RRBs.
- Prominent experts highlighted the transformation of rural banking, from its inception in 1975 to its present stature, serving 90% of rural India through a network of 43 RRBs serving 40 crore.
The event featured inspiring speeches by retired employees and senior officials, reflecting on the challenges and achievements of the RRB sector. The seminar concluded with discussions on future strategies for RRBs to sustain their pivotal role in rural development amid evolving financial landscapes. Similar golden jubilee celebrations happened in many states. The last among was in West Bengal.
