Bangiya Gramin Vikash Bank Employees Association Celebrates Golden Jubilee of RRBs

Bangiya Gramin Vikash Bank Employees Association (BGVBEA) celebrated RRBs’ Golden Jubilee with a two-day trade union workshop in West Bengal. The event featured industry veterans, fostering meaningful discussions and commemorating five decades of rural banking excellence.

The Bangiya Gramin Vikash Bank Employees Association (BGVBEA) organised a trade union workshop as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs). It was a two-day ‘Trade Union Workshop’ in West Bengal on December 14-15, 2024. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 225 individuals from various districts across the state, with the majority of attendees aged between 30 and 35 years.

Representatives from two other RRBs in West Bengal—Pashchim Banga Gramin Bank Employees Association and Uttar Banga Gramin Bank Employees Association—actively participated in the workshop. The inaugural session was further enriched by the presence of their General Secretaries and other leaders, alongside the General Secretary and President of the Bangiya Gramin Vikash Bank Officers Association, who graced the event with their valuable insights and support.

Veterans Lead the Workshop

The workshop witnessed the presence of distinguished veterans from India’s banking industry, including Rana Mitra, General Secretary of the All India NABARD Employees Association, and Debasish Basu Choudhury, General Secretary of the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI).

The workshop commenced with an inaugural address by Abdul Sayeed Khan, General Secretary of the National Federation of RRB Officers (NFRRBO), who elaborated on the rich history of AIRRBEA, the current state of RRBs, and the pivotal role of the new generation in shaping their future. Debasis Mondal, General Secretary of BGVBEA, delivered an engaging introductory speech, welcoming and addressing the participants.

The event was effectively coordinated by Partha Sarathi Sanyal, Vice President of NFRRBO, and Surendranath Kuley, President of BGVBEA, ensuring seamless execution and meaningful interactions throughout the workshop.

The workshop featured prominent speakers from RRBs, including Prasanta Chowdhury, President of the National Federation of RRB Employees (NFRRBE), Shiv Karan Dwivedi, General Secretary of NFRRBE, H. Nagabhusan Rao, Chairman of the AIRRBEA Legal Sub-Committee, Joydev Dasgupta, General Secretary of BEF (WB), and Bidhan Chakraborty, Treasurer of the National Federation of Regional Rural Bank Officers (NFRRBO). As resource persons, they addressed diverse and critical topics, enriching the discussions with their expertise and offering valuable insights to the participants.

According to BGVBEA General Secretary Debasis Mondal, the trade union workshop concluded with a vibrant cultural program that brought together participants and resource persons in a spirit of camaraderie. The event was lauded as a meaningful and fruitful interaction, fostering a deeper understanding of the issues and opportunities within the RRB sector.

Golden Jubilee Celebrations Across India

A few days ago, AIRRBEA units of Madhyanchal Gramin BankJharkhand Rajya Gramin Bank, and Mizoram Rural Bank also commemorated the 50th anniversary of RRBs in December. Celebrations highlighted the legacy and achievements of RRBs in serving rural India over the past five decades.
