Experienced Meets Energetic: Young Leaders Given the Baton at AIRRBEA 15th Triennial Conference to Strengthen RRBs

AIRRBEA’s 15th Triennial Conference marked a pivotal leadership transition, balancing experienced voices with young leaders to strengthen RRBs. According to H. Nagabhushan Rao, President of the Reception Committee for the conference, most of the principal office bearers of NFRRBE and NFRRBO are around the age of 40, with only a few exceptions. “The majority of office bearers have over 20 years of service remaining,” Rao added.

The 15th Triennial Conference of the All India Regional Rural Bank Employees Association (AIRRBEA) concluded in Ballari, Karnataka, on February 9, 2025, marking a generational shift in leadership. The conference, attended by nearly 1,000 delegates, underscored AIRRBEA’s continued commitment to strengthening the Regional Rural Bank (RRB) sector while transitioning leadership to the younger generation.

A New Generation Leads AIRRBEA Forward

The conference saw an unprecedented number of young leaders stepping into key positions, a transition that began in the previous conference in Guwahati in 2021.

Notably, young leaders from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Assam were elected to key positions, including President, Vice Presidents, Treasurer and General Secretaries in the National Federation of RRB Officers (NFRRBO) and the National Federation of RRB Employees (NFRRBE) — the officers’ and employees’ wings of AIRRBEA.

Highlighting this shift, the conference report stated:

“The 15th Conference was held with a large number of young generation participants, reflecting the transition of leadership to the new generation. A majority of the posts in the Principal Office Bearers of NFRRBE and NFRRBO have been elected from new-generation leaders, with great expectations to lead the federations with zeal and vigour, steering AIRRBEA through future challenges and policy directions.”

According to H. Nagabhushan Rao, President of the Reception Committee for the conference, most of the principal office bearers of NFRRBE and NFRRBO are around the age of 40, with only a few exceptions. “The majority of office bearers have over 20 years of service remaining,” Rao added.

Satvinder Singh, a young delegate from Jammu and Kashmir at the conference, highlighted the significance of this leadership transition. Speaking to Kanal, he stated, “AIRRBEA has set a strong precedent in India’s trade union movement. As the largest organization representing RRB employees, officers, and retirees, it now brings together a dynamic mix of experienced and young leaders. This blend of institutional wisdom and fresh perspectives will be instrumental in shaping the future policies of RRBs.”

Amendment in Constitution to Ensure Uniformity

One of the key decisions of the conference was an amendment to the AIRRBEA constitution to introduce the post of Deputy General Secretary (DGS) in the National Federation of Retired RRB Staff (NFRRRBS), ensuring uniformity across all federations under AIRRBEA.

“As per the existing provision, there are Deputy General Secretary posts in both NFRRBE and NFRRBO, but no such provision existed in NFRRRBS. To bring uniformity, a proposal for the creation of a DGS post in NFRRRBS was placed by the General Secretary and was approved by the house.”

The conference concluded with the election of a new leadership team. Delegates unanimously elected S. Venkateshwar Reddy as the Secretary General and C. Rajeevan as the President of AIRRBEA, alongside other office bearers who will guide the organization through its next phase of policy advocacy and employee rights protection.

With young leaders at the forefront and a strong organizational foundation, AIRRBEA aims to make RRBs stronger, more inclusive, and a driving force in India’s rural banking sector.
