AIRRBEA’s 15th Triennial Conference Concludes, Adopting Crucial Resolutions to Strive Ahead

AIRRBEA’s 15th Triennial Conference concluded in Ballari, witnessing the participation of over 1,000 delegates. Key resolutions included the formation of the National Rural Bank of India and the regularisation of outsourced workers.

The 15th Triennial Conference of the All India Regional Rural Bank Employees Association (AIRRBEA) concluded on February 9, 2024, marking a historic moment in the organization’s journey. The event, held with grandeur in Ballari on February 8 - 9, saw the participation of over 1,000 delegates from across India, reinforcing the strength of the largest union representing Regional Rural Bank (RRB) employees.

Commemorating 50 Years of RRBs

Setting the stage for the conference, a special postal cover celebrating 50 years of RRBs was released on February 7 by an Executive Officer from the Postal Department. The symbolic gesture honored the pivotal role of RRBs in rural banking and financial inclusion.

Conference Inauguration and Women’s Convention

The formal proceedings commenced on February 8 with the hoisting of the AIRRBEA flag, followed by floral tributes at the martyrs’ column. The official inauguration was led by retired Justice Supreme Court of India, Justice V. Gopal Gowda, who addressed the gathering on the critical role of RRBs in India's economic framework.

A major highlight of the first day was the Women’s Convention, inaugurated by Mariam Dhawale, General Secretary of the All India Democratic Women's Association. The participation of over 300 women delegates underscored the growing role of women in the banking sector and the union’s commitment to gender representation.

Deliberations and Leadership Transition

On the second day, the conference witnessed intense deliberations during the delegates' session, culminating in the adoption of several crucial resolutions. Among the key decisions was a call for the following:

  1. Formation of National Rural Bank of India (NRBI).
  2. To fill vacancies as per manpower policy and 
  3. Complete implementation of the 12th BPS and 9th Joint note in RRBs.
  4. Regularisation of all casual/part-time/outsourced workers in line with Andhra Pradesh Gramin Vikash Bank (APGVB) scheme.

The adopted resolutions were followed by a response from the Secretary General, addressing key concerns of RRB employees, including job security, better working conditions, and policy advocacy.

The conference concluded with the election of a new leadership team for the next three years. Delegates unanimously elected S. Venkateshwar Reddy as the Secretary General and C. Rajeevan as the President, alongside other office bearers who will steer AIRRBEA through its future challenges and policy engagements.

With a strong turnout and critical discussions, the conference reaffirmed AIRRBEA’s role as the backbone of RRB employees’ rights, setting the tone for continued advocacy in the years ahead.
