The All India IDBI Officers’ Association (AIIDBIOA) has raised serious concerns about a toxic work culture prevailing in IDBI Bank. This comes amid their ongoing protests against the privatisation of the bank, with officers calling for immediate intervention to address issues affecting employee well-being.

Complaints Against Prolonged Meetings

In a letter dated 19 November 2024 to the MD & CEO of IDBI Bank, AIIDBIOA highlighted the persistence of toxic practices in the organisation, particularly in the Retail Banking Group (RBG). The association reported instances of online review meetings conducted by Zonal and Regional Heads that stretch well beyond working hours, often continuing until late at night.

This recent letter is a follow-up of an earlier representation dated 16 October 2024, which cited a specific case from 14 October 2024, where an online meeting of branch heads under the Indore Region lasted from 6:30 p.m. to nearly midnight. Such practices, the association claims, disrupt the personal lives of officers and adversely impact their mental health.

Allegations of Abusive Language

The association also accused senior officials, particularly in the Chennai Zone, of using abusive language during review meetings, causing intimidation and mental distress among officers. The AIIDBIOA stressed that such behaviour is unacceptable and detrimental to a healthy work environment.

The officers have urged the issuance of a circular mandating that online review meetings be conducted only between 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on working days, avoiding business hours and late evenings. They also stressed that abusive language or intimidating behaviour during meetings must be strictly prohibited.

The association warned that if these issues persist, they would escalate the matter to the State Labour Commissioner, seeking appropriate action against the responsible officials.

AIIDBIOA has urged the management to act swiftly and effectively to resolve these concerns. They reiterated their commitment to protecting the well-being of employees and maintaining a healthy work culture while continuing their agitation against the privatisation of the bank.
