The National Federation of Retired RRB Staff ( NFRRRBS), representing former employees of Regional Rural Banks (RRB), has formally approached the Ministry of Finance with grievances about the misapplication of the amended RRB Pension Regulations, 2018. These concerns primarily relate to the denial of pension benefits to retirees who were dismissed, removed, or terminated from service (DRT cases), despite a Supreme Court directive and clear regulatory provisions.
Supreme Court Ruling: Pension for All Eligible Retirees
A Supreme Court order dated August 12, 2024, clearly directed that all eligible RRB retirees must be paid their current pension, stating, “everybody must be paid at least current pension.” This includes DRT cases, whose right to pension is also supported by Regulation 3(1)(a) and Regulation 20 of the amended 2018 Pension Regulations.

NFRRRBS Demands Ministry Intervention
The NFRRRBS, submitted the below-mentioned letter to the Ministry of Finance on May 19, 2025. In it, they urged the government to issue clear directions to all RRBs to comply with the amended pension regulations and the Supreme Court’s order. The federation highlighted that many senior citizen retirees continue to face hardship due to delayed or denied pension payments, despite having legal entitlements.

Retired RRB employees, especially those in DRT categories, are seeking what they believe is rightfully theirs—timely and fair pension payments. With Supreme Court support and regulatory backing, their appeal to the government now calls for quick and lawful implementation by Regional Rural Banks nationwide.
