A recent social media post has drawn attention to an internal communication issued within a specific Regional Business Office (RBO) of the State Bank of India (SBI). The instruction removes the authority of Branch Managers to sanction leave for officers, requiring all applications to be forwarded to the Regional Manager (RM). The post has triggered a neutral discussion on the working dynamics between branch-level and regional-level administration.
Internal SBI RBO Instruction Changes Leave-Approval Structure
As per the social media post, the circulated internal email states that Branch Managers under the concerned SBI RBO are no longer authorised to approve or sanction leave for officers. All leave applications must now be forwarded to the designated sanctioning authority at the RBO, with final approval resting with the RM except in extreme cases.

Social Media Post Criticises the Concentration of Authority
The social media post questions why SBI Branch Managers—who handle significant responsibilities such as business operations, audits, customer escalations, NPA management, recovery and risk—must depend on the RM for basic leave approvals. The post expresses frustration at what it describes as a growing imbalance between branch responsibility and authority.

The application for leave and approval therefore are.done through HRMS where the level of approvers are.set.in system as per extant rules at corporate centre level and no rbo can tweak it, I believe
