The Joint Forum of Aryavart Bank Officers' Unions and Associations (JFABOUA), along with the Aryavart Bank Officers’ Association (ABOA), have submitted separate letters to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Adityanath, requesting the declaration of a public holiday on the auspicious occasion of Mahaashtami and Mahanavmi on October 11, 2024. Both unions emphasised the cultural and religious significance of these festivals for millions of Hindus, particularly in Northern India.

Joint Forum's Request for Public Holiday

In a letter dated October 9, 2024, the Joint Forum of Aryavart Bank Officers’ Unions and Associations made a heartfelt appeal to the Chief Minister. They highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s longstanding tradition of declaring Mahanavmi a public holiday and warned that not doing so would disrupt traditional celebrations and impact the community's cultural and social fabric.

The letter read, “We very humbly draw your kind attention towards the non-declaration of a holiday on the auspicious occasion of Mahaashtami and Mahanavmi, which falls on October 11, 2024. These occasions hold immense significance for millions of Hindus, especially in Northern India. The absence of a public holiday not only disrupts traditional celebrations but also impacts the cultural and social fabric of our community. We beseech you to consider declaring these dates as a public holiday to honour our cultural heritage.”

ABOA's Parallel Appeal

In a similar request, AIBOC affiliated Aryavart Bank Officers’ Association (ABOA) also submitted a letter to the Chief Minister on October 6, 2024. The ABOA reiterated the importance of declaring a public holiday for Mahaashtami and Mahanavmi and stressed that such a gesture would foster social harmony and respect among the Hindu community.

The ABOA's letter stated, “We humbly request your kind consideration in declaring a public holiday on October 11, 2024, for Mahaashtami and Mahanavmi. These occasions, which hold great religious and cultural significance, provide an opportunity for Hindus to engage in various religious observances. Declaring a holiday would not only honour our cultural heritage but also promote social harmony and respect within the community.”

Both associations are hopeful for a positive response from the Uttar Pradesh government, as the declaration of a holiday on these significant occasions would uphold the state's tradition and values.
