In a strongly worded letter addressed to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Punjab National Bank, the All India Punjab National Bank Officers’ Federation (AIPNBOF) has raised serious concerns over the prolonged duration of a recent virtual business review meeting held on June 3rd, 2025.
The meeting, reportedly chaired by the MD & CEO, extended for nearly 12 hours. The federation has objected not only to the excessive duration of the session but also to the explanation letters issued to officers who left after 8:30 PM due to pressing personal reasons.
“No review meetings should last for more than 8 hours,” the letter states firmly, adding that “explanation letters should not have been served on these officers, many of whom have been consistent performers.”

Signed by Krishna Kumar, General Secretary of AIPNBOF, the communication underscores the adverse impact of such marathon meetings on officers’ work-life balance and overall well-being. The letter cautions that while cost-effective business growth is essential, the well-being of officers, especially senior staff is equally critical.
Highlighting the broader implications, the federation notes that if such practices continue, “whatever you do will be copied by Zonal and Circle heads,” triggering a systemic breakdown of work-life equilibrium in the bank.
In conclusion, AIPNBOF has appealed to the bank’s top leadership to take these concerns into account and avoid such extended sessions in the future.
The letter reflects a growing sentiment across public sector banks which is a call for dignity in work hours and respect for officer well-being, even amidst performance pressures.
