Five-Day Banking Demand: PNB Employees, Backed by AIPNBOF, Stage Peaceful Nationwide Strike

The All India Punjab National Bank Officers’ Federation (AIPNBOF) observed a one-day strike on 9th October. The protest focused on the demand for five-day banking under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

The All India Punjab National Bank Officers’ Federation (AIPNBOF) conducted a one-day nationwide strike, highlighting the long-pending demand for five-day banking. The federation maintained that the protest was peaceful, focusing on awareness rather than disruption. Krishna Kumar, General Secretary of  AIPNBOF emphasised that the strike was symbolic and peaceful, with branches staying open and customer service unaffected, aimed at urging management to honour its assurances and restore dignity and work-life balance for officers.

Peaceful Demonstrations Across Regions
AIPNBOF members and Punjab National Bank (PNB) employees across multiple zones participated by visiting branches and expressing unity through symbolic gestures. Teams from Patiala, Haridwar, Jalandhar, Aligarh, Dharamshala, Paschim Medinipur, Bareilly, Gurugram, Bijnor, Yamunanagar, Patna, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarnagar, Faridabad, Aurangabad, Udaipur, Delhi and many other regions took part in the coordinated effort. Roses were distributed to members of AIPNBOA to promote harmony and awareness.

Female Members Join Strike, Promote Solidarity
Women officers actively participated in the strike, demonstrating their commitment to the five-day banking demand. Members led initiatives at several branches, engaging colleagues and promoting harmony and awareness. Roses were distributed to AIPNBOA members as a gesture of goodwill and unity. Their involvement highlighted the inclusive nature of the protest and reinforced the message of solidarity, respect, and a collective call for a balanced work-life environment.
