Bank of Baroda employees in Rajasthan faced an unexpected Sunday workday, tasked with uploading BOB World documents on the Business Decision Management Solution (BDMS) portal, raising concerns about work-life balance.

Unexpected Sunday Assignment in Bharatpur and Jodhpur
Regional heads in Bharatpur and Jodhpur issued directives instructing branches to complete the uploading of BOB World-related documents on the portal. The email from the Jodhpur region emphasised adherence to higher authorities’ instructions and urged branches to finish the task promptly.

The accessed email from Jodhpur region to bankers said, “As per instruction of higher authorities, the task of uploading of documents in BDMS portal is to be completed by 03.12.2023. We therefore advise all the branches to complete the above task today along with concerned officers of your branch.”

Urgent Sunday Deadline Raises Eyebrows
Bankers received an email on Saturday December 2 evening, stressing the urgency of uploading BOB World documents before 4 PM on Sunday. The short notice and pressure to meet the deadline fuelled concerns about the impact on work-life balance.

Target Pressure Challenges Bankers
Bank of Baroda has faced criticism for imposing target-based pressure on employees, leading to work-life imbalance and allegations of harassment. Recent incidents include pushing bankers to sell IndiaFirst Life Insurance, resulting in accusations of mis-selling by the Bank of Baroda Officers’ Union.

Broader Context of Allegations
In addition to the Sunday work mandate, Bank of Baroda has been under scrutiny for alleged HR harassment related to the reclaiming of BOB World rewards. The Officers’ Association has demanded transparency and corrective action, highlighting ongoing challenges within the bank.

This development adds to the growing concerns about the impact of aggressive targets on the well-being of bank employees, calling for a reevaluation of the working conditions in public sector banks like Bank of Baroda.

However the current development wherein bankers are being forced to work even on weekends stands contrary to the large persisting demand of 5 days of banking.
