A deeply disturbing incident has come to light involving a woman officer of Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank (UPGB). Ms. Anshul Siddhu, serving as Assistant Manager at the bank’s Soron branch, was violently assaulted while returning home from work on the evening of July 15, 2025. The incident, which has raised serious concerns about employee safety, is now being seen as part of a larger conspiracy linked to a previous case of workplace sexual harassment.
According to an internal alert circulated among staff and a detailed police complaint filed by Ms. Siddhu herself, the attack occurred at around 5 PM. While she was travelling in an auto from the branch, she noticed another auto nearby with two women inside. When her vehicle moved ahead, one of those women signaled her auto to stop. Soon, a man carrying thick sticks arrived on the scene, and the trio launched a sudden attack.
The complaint details how one woman grabbed her from behind, holding her neck, while the other began beating her on the back and head. Ms. Anshul screamed for help, and upon noticing other people nearby, the attackers tried to escape. The attackers were caught by the local Soron police where Ms. Siddhu lodged a formal complaint.

Shocking Allegation of Planned Conspiracy
In her complaint, Ms. Anshul makes a serious allegation that the attack is not an isolated incident, but part of a deliberate and premeditated conspiracy. She links the two women involved in the assault to Mr. Gurucharan Singh Tomar, her former branch manager, against whom she had filed a sexual harassment complaint in 2022. She claims that Tomar, despite being investigated for workplace misconduct, continued to threaten and harass her even after the inquiry.
The complaint also mentions that when Gurucharan Singh retired, he allegedly warned Ms. Siddhu that she would "face consequences" for filing the complaint against him. She believes the assault was an act of revenge, orchestrated to intimidate her and possibly cause her serious harm.
Last month two Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank employees were abducted and assaulted in Basti exposing the rising insecurity in rural banking.
Call for Strict Legal Action
Ms. Anshul has urged the authorities to take stringent action under sections related to attempt to murder, physical assault, conspiracy, and harassment. She has requested police protection and demanded that a full investigation be launched into the role of former manager Gurucharan Singh Tomar and his alleged connections to the attackers.
She also raised concern that the attack could have ended fatally had she not managed to raise an alarm. Ms. Anshul has emphasised that she fears for her life and urged immediate police action to prevent any further harm.
Bank Staff Advised to Remain Vigilant
In light of the incident, a message was circulated among all staff members of the bank urging them to remain vigilant and cautious, especially while commuting. The note emphasized the need for employees to report any suspicious activity near their workplace or residence to the authorities without delay.

Solidarity and Support
The banking community has expressed solidarity and concern for Ms. Anshul, wishing her a speedy recovery and calling for justice. Many fellow employees are demanding stronger safety measures and accountability for past complaints of harassment that may have been overlooked.
As investigations proceed, this case serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by frontline bank employees, particularly women, and the urgent need for strong institutional mechanisms to ensure workplace safety and justice.
