In a formal representation addressed to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank Officers’ Federation (UPGBOF) has requested that October 21, 2025, be declared a public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act (N.I. Act). The federation emphasised that such a decision would help thousands of bank employees and government staff across the state to observe the Diwali festival with joy and devotion.

Federation’s Request to the State Govt
The letter, dated October 15, 2025, highlights that Diwali holds immense cultural and spiritual importance. The federation pointed out that in the spirit of the festival of lights, lakhs of lamps are lit across the state, symbolising harmony and prosperity. It further mentioned that under the leadership of the state government, Uttar Pradesh has become a global center of attention during Diwali festivities.

Reason for the Holiday Appeal
According to the federation, while Diwali is being celebrated on October 21, many employees working far from their homes may find it difficult to join their families on time. Declaring a public holiday would provide them the opportunity to celebrate the festival peacefully and uphold family and cultural values.

Significance of the Appeal
UPGBOF General Secretary Suraj Tiwari stated that granting a public holiday would not only spread happiness among employees but also demonstrate the government’s commitment to employee welfare and cultural respect. The appeal further noted that such recognition would reflect the state’s continued dedication to its cultural heritage.
