SBI-Sponsored RRB Staff Coordination Panel Flags Major Disparities in Loans, Allowances and Promotion

SBI-sponsored RRB unions flag wage, loan, and benefit disparities; urge SBI to address long-pending staff welfare issues and discrimination.

In a strong appeal to the State Bank of India (SBI), unions in SBI sponsored RRBs have raised serious concerns about long-standing disparities in staff benefits, wages, and administrative practices. In a letter dated July 10, 2025, addressed to the Managing Director (A&S) of SBI, the Convener and Chairman of the Coordination Committee of Unions in SBI-sponsored RRBs have demanded immediate redressal of pending issues during the upcoming quarterly structured meeting of RRBs at Kochi.

The letter stated, ‘We have to bring to your kind notice that SBI as a sponsor bank, till a decade back, was very much graceful towards RRBs and was ahead in many staff welfare measures. But of late, the staff in RRBs Sponsored by SBI are facing continuous discrimination in the matter of many staff benefits like staff loans, conveyance allowance, leased accommodation and and manpower norms.’

Disparities in Staff Welfare Measures

The unions noted that SBI-sponsored RRBs have been lagging behind in several areas of employee welfare, especially when compared to RRBs sponsored by other banks such as PNBBoBCanara BankIndian Bank, and Union Bank. “SBI was once ahead in staff welfare, but over the past decade, there has been a noticeable decline in parity,” the letter states.

In recent times, SBI-sponsored RRBs have faced allegations of exerting pressure on employees to aggressively meet SBI Life Insurance cross-selling targets raising serious employee concerns.

 

Appeal for Equal Treatment and Urgent Intervention

The letter also mentioned that the Government of India has extended full parity in wage revisions, pension, compassionate appointments, and computer increments to RRBs. Yet, SBI-sponsored banks have not implemented these benefits in full, causing growing dissatisfaction.

The unresolved issues in SBI sponsored RRBs underscore a simmering distress among the rural banking workforce with an expectation of transparency and fairness.
