According to the letter, the officer visited the borrower, Chintap, to request repayment of the outstanding amount. During the interaction, the borrower and his brother, Nage, allegedly assaulted him with sticks and held him captive. The attackers also reportedly tore bank documents. The letter states that Mishra sustained serious injuries but managed to escape.
The Federation mentioned that the official attempted to file a First Information Report at Vakira Police Station soon after the incident. The letter claims that the station initially hesitated to register the case, and although a complaint was later filed after repeated requests, no arrests had been made at the time of writing.
The Federation expressed concern that the incident has created fear and insecurity among bank staff in the district. It emphasised that bank officers play a crucial role in public welfare schemes and loan recovery, and require administrative protection to perform these duties.
The Federation requested immediate action, including the arrest of the accused, provision of protection and justice for the officer, and administrative support to prevent recurrence of such incidents. The letter was also copied to senior state authorities for necessary attention.
